Yeshua's Ministry

(Please note: This bible study can be directly accessed on the Internet at http://www.enterHiscovenant.com/BibleStudy20171028.htm)

Hi! I'm Pastor Floyd! I wish I had a photograph of you, too, so that I could visualize to whom I am talking! But Yahuah Hayah, the Self-Existent, Eternal I AM, the Creator of all and King over it, knows who you are; and that's all that matters!

Welcome to our friends all over the world! Whoever you are, whatever time of day it is for you, the amazing and wonderful thing is that we are together for this hour, fulfilling Yahuah's prophecy through Yeshua:

This gospel of the kingdom shall be preached in all the world for a witness unto all nations; and then shall the end come! (Matthew 24:14)

We have been making our way through Yahuah Hayah's teaching through Yeshua to His "disciples" and"the multitudes ... in a mountain'! (Matthew 5:1) So Yeshua said:

No man can serve two masters: for either he will hate the one, and love the other; or else he will hold to the one, and despise the other. Ye cannot serve God and mammon. (Matthew 6:24)

To put this in common language: You cannot comfortably straddle a fence! Your feet need to be one one side or the other! Of course Yeshua is speaking of hearkening "diligently unto the voice of Yahuah, thy God, to observe and to do all His commandments" (Deuteronomy 28:1) while at the same time listening to every lying spirit coming along to bring confusion into your spirit concerning what you should be doing to fulfill your desires!

"Mammon" is a translation of a word meaning “confidence, i.e. wealth, personified; ... i.e. avarice”! (Strong: Greek: 3126) And, my online Merriam-Webster defines "avarice" as "excessive or insatiable desire for wealth or gain"! Yahuah Hayah is talking here, through Yeshua, of one's being caught up in the wrong kind of desire!

Having made that major point, Yeshua then breaks the idea down into specific applications, beginning with our need for food and clothing and chiding us for being concerned for them:

25 Take no thought for your life, what ye shall eat or what ye shall drink nor yet for your body, what ye shall put on! Is not the life more than meat and the body than raiment? 26 Behold the fowls of the air: for they sow not, neither do they reap nor gather into barns! Yet your heavenly Father feedeth them! Are ye not much better than they? 27 Which of you by taking thought can add one cubit unto his stature? 28 And why take ye thought for raiment? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow; they toil not, neither do they spin: 29 Yet I say, unto you, that even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these. 30 Wherefore, if God so clothe the grass of the field, which to day is and to morrow is cast into the oven, shall He not much more clothe you, O ye of little faith?

All of the above being embarrassingly clear, Yeshua then makes His recommendation:

31 Therefore take no thought, saying, What shall we eat? or, What shall we drink? or, Wherewithal shall we be clothed? 32 (For after all these things do the Gentiles seek:) for your heavenly Father knoweth that ye have need of all these things. 33 But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and His righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you. 34 Take therefore no thought for the morrow: for the morrow shall take thought for the things of itself. Sufficient unto the day is the evil thereof. (Matthew 6:31 to 34)

Remember how Yeshua taught His disciples to pray "Give us this day our daily bread!" (Matthew 6:11) That is thought for food and, presumably, for all of our other basic needs; but it is for "this day"! And Yeshua gave a specific way to seek them; and it is not to seek them directly! We are to "seek ye first the kingdom of God, and His righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you." (Matthew 6:33)

Alright, how do we “ seek ... first the kingdom of God and His righteousness”?

Remember how Yeshua said: "Except your righteousness shall exceed the righteousness of the scribes and Pharisees, ye shall in no case enter into the kingdom of Heaven"? (Matthew 5:20) So "righteousness" is the key to entering "the kingdom of God"; and Yahuah Hayah offers that to us, through Yeshua, through Moses, through His Torah, saying:

It shall be our righteousness, if we observe to do all these commandments before Yahuah, our God! (Deuteronomy 6:25)

So we are back to keeping, observing, guarding or putting a value on all of the commandments of Yahuah's Torah to fare well under Him! And who is not "under" or subject to Him? Is He not our Creator and King? And does that not give Him the right to say what He wants of us and what He will do about our choices in that matter?

We hear the expression "divine right of kings"! A king is a person who has been put in the place of God and who presumably has the "right" to say what his subjects are to do and what he will do about what they do!

There is a period in the history of "the children of Israel" (Deuteronomy 29:1) during which Yahuah ruled over them through servants of His whom He called "judges"! They did not rule as kings but simply passed on to His people what He wanted them to do; and they "judged" them according to their conduct in relation to His will!

The last true judge was Samuel, to whom "all the elders of Israel" (1st Samuel 8:4) went, saying:

5 Behold, thou art old, and thy sons walk not in thy ways: now make us a king to judge us like all the nations! 6 But the thing displeased Samuel, when they said, Give us a king to judge us. And Samuel prayed, unto Yahuah. 7 And Yahuah said, unto Samuel, Hearken unto the voice of the people in all that they say unto thee: for they have not rejected thee, but they have rejected Me, that I should not reign over them. 8 According to all the works that they have done since the day that I brought them up out of Egypt, even unto this day, wherewith they have forsaken me and served other gods, so do they also unto thee! 9 Now therefore hearken unto their voice: yet protest solemnly, unto them, and show them the manner of the king that shall reign over them. 10 And Samuel told all the words of Yahuah unto the people who asked of him a king! 11 And he said, This will be the manner of the king who shall reign over you: He will take your sons and appoint them for himself, for his chariots and to be his horsemen! And some shall run before his chariots. 12 And he will appoint him captains over thousands and captains over fifties and will set them to ear his ground and to reap his harvest, to make his instruments of war and instruments of his chariots! 13 And he will take your daughters to be confectioneries, cooks and bakers! 14 He will take your fields, your vineyards, and your olive yards, even the best of them, and give them to his servants! 15 And he will take the tenth of your seed and of your vineyards and give to his officers and servants! 16 He will take your menservants, your maidservants, your goodliest young men and your asses and put them to his work. 17 He will take the tenth of your sheep: and ye shall be his servants. 18 And ye shall cry out, in that day, because of the king whom you have chosen; and Yahuah will not hear you. 19 Nevertheless, the people refused to obey the voice of Samuel; and they said, Nay; but we will have a king over us, 20 that we may be like all the nations and that our king may judge us and go out before us and fight our battles! 21 And Samuel heard all the words of the people, and he rehearsed them in the ears of Yahuah! 22 And Yahuah said, to Samuel, Hearken, unto their voice, and make them a king. And Samuel said unto the men of Israel, Go ye every man unto his city! (1st Samuel 8:5 to 22)

So Yahuah gave, to the children of Israel, the kings that they wanted; and everything He had warned them about through Samuel came true! And to this day we have suffered under governments of men, which are invariably corrupted and exploitative by reason of their presumptuousness to rule in Yahuah's place! It has been a long time since as a people we have sought "first the kingdom of God, and His righteousness" so that "all these things shall be added unto you". (Matthew 6:33) So "all these things" come hard for us as a people!

Individually, our experience is another story; for, since Yahuah's "judgments are true and righteous, altogether" (Psalm 19:9), those of us who do seek His "righteousness" by observing "to do all these commandments" (Deuteronomy 6:25) find ourselves with His "shield and ... exceedingly great reward" (Genesis 15:1), no matter what government is in place over our land.

So food and clothing beyond "this day" (Matthew 6:11) are not an issue with us, so long as we are looking to Yahuah Hayah for them.

In His "Sermon on the Mount", Yeshua then turns to our efforts to judge one another, saying:

1 Judge not, that ye be not judged! 2 For with what judgment ye judge, ye shall be judged: and with what measure ye mete, it shall be measured to you again! 3 And why beholdest thou the mote that is in thy brother's eye, but considerest not the beam that is in thine own eye? 4 Or how wilt thou say to thy brother, Let me pull out the mote out of thine eye; and, behold, a beam is in thine own eye? 5 Thou hypocrite, first cast out the beam out of thine own eye; and then shalt thou see clearly to cast out the mote out of thy brother's eye. (Matthew 7:1 to 5)

Yahuah Hayah's perfect justice comes into play, in this passage; Yeshua gave a similar idea, by saying:

Give, and it shall be given unto you; good measure, pressed down, shaken together and running over shall men give into your bosom! For, with the same measure that ye mete withal, it shall be measured to you again! (Luke 6:38)

Yeshua starts this passage, by saying: "Judge not!" We simply are not in a position to know the circumstances of our brothers and sisters well enough to do any judging, which is best left to Yahuah Hayah, Who does "know the hearts". (Acts 15:8)

And, of course, too many of us are guilty of judging others when we ourselves are well apart from Yahuah Hayah's will for us. Yeshua called such a person "hypocrite"! And we are well advised to "cast out the beam out of thine own eye" so we can "see clearly to cast out the mote out of thy brother’s eye". (Matthew 7:1 to 5)

Yeshua then speaks what I believe is a word of caution in the treatment of our enemy! He said: "Love your enemies, bless them who curse you, do good to them who hate you, and pray for them who despitefully use you and persecute you." (Matthew 5:44) At the same time, He advised, in the passage we are studying: "Give not that which is holy unto the dogs; neither cast ye your pearls before swine, lest they trample them, under their feet, and turn again and rend you." (Matthew 7:6)

If we are praying for our enemies, while loving, blessing and doing good to them, Yahuah Hayah knows their hearts and what they need to experience so that He can do for them what you have asked! And that can be quite a process! In the meanwhile, not a word can be found in His advice for dealing with the enemy that suggests we expose them to what is "holy" to Him or valuable to us as "pearls"!

"Holy" is a translation of a word meaning "sacred" or "consecrated"! (Strong: Greek: 40) And Yahuah Hayah does not want us putting such things into the hands of His children who are practicing enmity! For, being obedient to the wrong spirit, they will desecrate anything of special value to those of us who are reverent toward our Creator and King! Yeshua then said:

7 Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you: 8 For every one who asketh receiveth; and he who seeketh findeth; and to him who knocketh it shall be opened! 9 Or what man is there of you, whom if his son ask bread, will he give him a stone? 10 Or if he ask a fish, will he give him a serpent? 11 If ye then, being evil, know how to give good gifts unto your children, how much more shall your Father Who is in Heaven give good things to them who ask Him? (Matthew 7:7 to 11)

Time after time Yeshua worked for the understanding of Yahuah Hayah's children that they not only have the Creator Who is keeping them breathing but a Father in Heaven Who loves them and cares for them and is marvelously responsive to their requests of Him, when they are sufficiently wise to do that. The pity is that Satan has programed us to expect little or nothing from our Creator, which of course prevents us from being among those who "ask Him". All too many people have spirits that are pitifully maimed in that regard. Yeshua continued:

All things whatsoever ye would that men should do to you, do ye even so to them: for this is the law and the prophets! (Matthew 7:12)

This commandment by Yahuah Hayah through Yeshua is, simply, another way of saying: "Love thy neighbor as thyself!" (Leviticus 19:18) One who does that is loving Yahuah, Who is the Creator of the neighbor; and of loving Him and one's neighbor Yeshua said: "On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets!" (Matthew 22:40) So one can see how well all aspects of Yeshua's teaching hang together! He said:

13 Enter ye in at the strait gate: for wide is the gate and broad is the way that leadeth to destruction, and many there be who go in thereat! 14 Because strait is the gate and narrow is the way that leadeth unto life, and few there be who find it. (Matthew 7:13 and 14)

This commandment and statement presents the dismal picture of a people who are for the most part lost! So we who love Yahuah Hayah's beloved children have our work cut out for us; more ministry is needed than we who love Him are capable of delivering, which is why our "dominion ... over every living thing that moveth upon the Earth" (Genesis 1:28) is so important! For by it what we cannot do Yahuah's Kodesh Ruach or Holy Spirit can do, which is to bring upon each child the circumstances that will "call ... sinners to repentance"! (Matthew 9:13)

Of course it helps to know of what entering "the strait gate" consists; and Yeshua more specifically explained: "Except your righteousness exceed the righteousness of the scribes and Pharisees, ye shall in no case enter into the kingdom of Heaven" (Matthew 5:20); and Yahuah Hayah said, through Yeshua, through Moses: "It shall be our righteousness, if we observe to do all these commandments before Yahuah, our God!" (Deuteronomy 6:25) He then warned, through Yeshua:

15 Beware of false prophets, who come to you in sheep's clothing, but inwardly they are ravening wolves! 16 Ye shall know them by their fruits! Do men gather grapes of thorns or figs of thistles? 17 Even so, every good tree bringeth forth good fruit; but a corrupt tree bringeth forth evil fruit. 18 A good tree cannot bring forth evil fruit, neither can a corrupt tree bring forth good fruit. 19 Every tree that bringeth not forth good fruit is hewn down and cast into the fire! (Matthew 9:15 to 19)

A "prophet" (Genesis 20:7) is an "inspired man". (Strong: Hebrew: 5030) So "false prophets" are those who are inspired by the wrong spirit! And Yeshua would have us understand that watching the "fruit" that comes of such prophets reveals what spirit has inspired them.

The gentle nature of a "sheep" caused Yeshua to speak of having "other sheep" who "hear My voice"! (John 10:16) So "false prophets ... come to you in sheep's clothing"!

But, when we see one of those prophets devouring the one's following him, he obviously is one of the "ravening wolves"! And being a "tree that bringeth not forth good fruit" he is due to be "cast into the fire"; and one had better ignore him!

But hearing Yahuah Hayah through Yeshua is another matter! And the fearful thing comes to those who do not hear Him! Yeshua said:

Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of Heaven but he who doeth the will of My Father Who is in Heaven! 22 Many will say to Me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in Thy name? and in Thy name have cast out devils? and in Thy name done many wonderful works? 23 And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from Me, ye who work iniquity! 24 Therefore, whosoever heareth these sayings of mine and doeth them, I will liken him unto a wise man, who built his house upon a rock! 25 And the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house; and it fell not: for it was founded upon a rock! 26 And every one who heareth these sayings of mine and doeth them not, shall be likened unto a foolish man, who built his house upon the sand! 27 And the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew and beat upon that house; and it fell! And great was the fall of it. (Matthew 7:21 to 27)

For the above reason I feel good about lending my voice to speaking Yahuah Hayah's words through Yeshua, Who would not have us rely on calling Him "Lord, Lord" or on doing "many wonderful works" in His name but upon doing "the will of My Father Who is in Heaven"! And how can we know that will better than by hearkening "diligently unto the voice of Yahuah, thy God, to observe to do all His commandments"? (Deuteronomy 28:1)

Yeshua said: "God is a Spirit!" (John 4:24) So we hear His voice in our spirit, as He encourages us to "observe" or put a value on "to do all His commandments", which is why He gave them to us through Yeshua through Moses! That is the "rock" that is the sure foundation for the house that will withstand the "rain", "floods" and "winds" that "beat upon that house".

Yahuah Hayah deliberately loosed Satan, in our world, to be that storm to test us; He said, through Yeshua, through Moses:

Thou shalt remember all the way in which Yahuah, thy God, led thee these forty years in the wilderness, to humble thee and to prove thee, to know what was in thine heart, whether thou wouldest keep His commandments or not! 3 He humbled thee and suffered thee to hunger and fed thee with manna, which thou knewest not, neither did thy fathers know, that He might make thee know that man doth not live by bread only but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of Yahuah doth man live. 4 Thy raiment waxed not old upon thee, neither did thy foot swell, these forty years. 5 Thou shalt also consider, in thine heart, that, as a man chasteneth his son, so the Yahuah, thy God, chasteneth thee. 6 Therefore thou shalt keep the commandments of Yahuah, thy God, to walk in His ways and to fear Him. 7 For Yahuah, thy God bringeth thee into a good land, a land of brooks of water, of fountains and depths that spring out of valleys and hills; 8 a land of wheat, barley, vines, fig trees and pomegranates; a land of olive oil and honey, 9 a land wherein thou shalt eat bread without scarceness! Thou shalt not lack any thing in it; a land whose stones are iron, and out of whose hills thou mayest dig brass! 10 When thou hast eaten and art full, then thou shalt bless Yahuah, thy God, for the good land that He hath given thee. 11 Beware that thou forget not Yahauh, thy God, in not keeping His commandments ... which I command thee this day, 12 lest when thou hast eaten and art full and hast built goodly houses and dwelt therein 13 and when thy herds and thy flocks multiply, and thy silver and thy gold is multiplied, and all that thou hast is multiplied; 14 then thine heart be lifted up and thou forget Yahuah, thy God, Who brought thee forth out of the land of Egypt, from the house of bondage, 15 Who led thee through that great and terrible wilderness, wherein were fiery serpents, scorpions and drought, where there was no water; who brought thee forth water out of the rock of flint; 16 Who fed thee in the wilderness with manna, which thy fathers knew not, that He might humble thee and that He might prove thee, to do thee good at thy latter end; 17 and thou say, in thine heart, my power and the might of mine hand hath gotten me this wealth. 18 But thou shalt remember Yahuah, thy God: for it is He Who giveth thee power to get wealth, that He may establish His covenant, which He sware unto thy fathers, as it is this day! 19 And it shall be, if thou do at all forget Yahuah, thy God, and walk after other gods, and serve them, and worship them, I testify against you, this day, that ye shall surely perish! 20 As the nations that Yahuah destroyeth before your face, so shall ye perish! because ye would not be obedient unto the voice of Yahuah, your God! (Deuteronomy 8:2 to 20)

Although Yahuah Hayah said, through Yeshua: "I have called you friends" (John 15), He has no use for "fair weather" friends; He said, through Yeshua, through His faithful apostle John:

Because thou art lukewarm and neither cold nor hot, I will spew thee out of My mouth! 17 Because thou sayest, I am rich and increased with goods and have need of nothing and knowest not that thou art wretched, miserable, poor, blind and naked! (Revelation 3:16 and 17)

Yahuah Hayah summed all that up, through Yeshua, by saying: "Ye are my friends, if ye do whatsoever I command you." (John 15:14) And some people take exception to that requirement; but He has assured us, through Yeshua, through Moses, that "Yahuah commanded us to do all these statutes, to fear Yahuah, our God, for our good always, that He might preserve us alive, as it is at this day!" (Deuteronomy 6:24)

With such divine wisdom having flowed from Yeshua's lips, "the people were astonished at His doctrine! 29 For He taught them as one having authority and not as the scribes!" (Matthew 7:28) So "When he was come down from the mountain, great multitudes followed him." (Matthew 8:1)

2 Behold, there came a leper and worshiped Him, saying, Lord, if thou wilt, Thou canst make me clean! 3 And Jesus put forth His hand and touched him, saying, I will! Be thou clean! And immediately his leprosy was cleansed. 4 And Jesus saith, unto him, See thou tell no man; but go thy way; show thyself to the priest and offer the gift that Moses commanded, for a testimony unto them. (Matthew 8:2 to 4)

Please observe that Yeshua was not afraid of the leprosy, which normally is contagious! He said: "I and my Father are one!" (John 10:30) Can you feature the idea of the Creator having leprosy? So, if you like the idea of being immune to disease, arrange for yourself to be one with the Father. We can be, through Yeshua, Who prayed, to His Father:

22 The glory that Thou gavest Me I have given them, that they may be one, even as We are one: 23 I in them, and Thou in Me, that they may be made perfect in one, that the world may know that Thou hast sent Me and hast loved them as Thou hast loved Me! (John 17:22 and 23)

This glorious arrangement is perfectly explainable in the light of what else Yeshua said:

15 If ye love me, keep My commandments! 16 And I will pray the Father, and He shall give you another Comforter, that He may abide with you for ever, 17 even the Spirit of Truth, Whom the world cannot receive, because it seeth Him not, neither knoweth Him. But ye know Him; for He dwelleth with you, and shall be in you. (John 14:15 to 17)

This bears some explaining; because, if Yahuah Hayah's Holy Spirit were not in us, we could not be alive or breathing! So I have come to believe that Yeshua was talking about a special permission that would be granted to ha Kodesh (the Holy) Ruach (Spirit) to manifest in us, Yahuah's beloved children, in an extraordinary way! And that is made clear by things that Yeshua said to His disciples both before and after He had risen from the dead! Before He died, He said:

I tell you the truth; It is expedient for you that I go away! For if I go not away, the Comforter will not come unto you; but, if I depart, I will send Him unto you. (John 16:7)

Then, when He had died and risen, a gloriously resurrected man, Yeshua said, to His disciples:

Ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto Me both in Jerusalem, in all Judæa, in Samaria and unto the uttermost part of the Earth! (Acts 1:8)

Of course the blessings of ha Kodesh (the Holy) Ruach (Spirit)'s special manifestation is wonderful to have! But we must not forget that its purpose is to empower us to "be witnesses … unto the uttermost part of the Earth"! And that is happening right now, in this amazing live video being sponsored by D.J. and her wonderfully gifted husband, to whom Yahuah Hayah has given such a wonderful knowledge of the technology that is making this video possible! Speaking of that special manifestation, Yeshua described it in detail, saying:

15 Go ye into all the world and preach the gospel to every creature! 16 He who believeth and is baptized shall be saved! But he who believeth not shall be damned! 17 And these signs shall follow them who believe; In My name shall they cast out devils! They shall speak with new tongues! 18 They shall take up serpents; and, if they drink any deadly thing, it shall not hurt them; they shall lay hands on the sick, and they shall recover! (Mark 16:15 to 18)

Are we to look for deadly snakes and deliberately pick them up? I hardly think so; when Satan had asked Yeshua to jump off a high place:Yeshua told him: "It is written ... Thou shalt not tempt the Lord thy God!" (Matthew 4:7) But when Henry Gruver was told by Yahuah Hayah to climb to the top of an island that had been cursed with deadly snakes and reclaim it for Him and His people, Brother Henry came home with the sides of his legs covered by the two-fanged bites of the deadly serpents that had infested the brush along the way! And, of course, he was not harmed! But, when he came back to the island some time later, a beautiful bridge had been built out to it; and it had prosperous farms all over the island!

We love, worship and serve a marvelous Creator and King, Who, when He is heard and obeyed by dedicated faithful children does exploits for them that are almost as breath-taking as His creation itself! We have an entire world to retake for Him; but do not be so presumptuous as to undertake any exploits on your own! Some years ago children thought they would be smart and in the example of Yeshua walk on water! But they simply drowned!

So what Yahuah Hayah definitely tells us to do, definitely do it; but all else leave up to Him! He wants no more from His children than what He asks of them. If He does ask it, He empowers them to do it; but, if He has not asked it of them, they're on their own! And that is a scary condition to be in! Getting back to our gospel narrative of Yeshua's activities:

5 When Jesus had entered into Capernaum, there came, unto Him, a centurion, 6 saying, Lord, my servant lieth at home, sick of the palsy and grievously tormented! 7 Jesus saith, unto him, I will come and heal him. 8 But the centurion answered, Lord, I am not worthy that Thou shouldest come under my roof! Speak the word only, and my servant shall be healed! 9 For I am a man under authority, having soldiers under me: and I say to this man, Go, and he goeth! and to another, Come, and he cometh! and to my servant, Do this, and he doeth it. 10 When Jesus heard it, He marveled, and said, to them who followed, Verily, I say, unto you, I have not found so great faith, no, not in Israel! 11 And I say, unto you, that many shall come, from the East and West, and shall sit down with Abraham, Isaac and Jacob, in the kingdom of Heaven! 12 But the children of the kingdom shall be cast out into outer darkness! There shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth! 13 And Jesus said, unto the centurion, Go thy way; and as thou hast believed, so be it done unto thee. And his servant was healed in the selfsame hour! (Matthew 8:5 to 13)

As beautiful and inspiring as this passage is, it contains another of Yeshua's "hard sayings"! (John 6:60) And I would go so far as to suggest how this particularly hard saying should have been worded!

"Many shall come, from the East and West, and shall sit down with Abraham, Isaac and Jacob, in the kingdom of Heaven! 12 But many of those who should have been among the children of the kingdom but were not because of their sinning shall be cast out into outer darkness! There shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth!"

I believe that additional language helps us to realize that Yahuah Hayah is not "the Author of confusion" (1st Corinthians 14:33) and that "the judgments of Yahuah are true and righteous altogether"! (Psalm 19:9) Matthew's gospel narrative continues:

14 When Jesus was come into Peter's house, He saw Peter's wife's mother laid and sick of a fever! 15 He touched her hand, and the fever left her: and she arose, and ministered unto them. 16 When the even was come, they brought, unto Him, many who were possessed with devils! And He cast out the spirits, with His word, and healed all who were sick, 17 that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by Isaiah, the prophet, saying, Himself took our infirmities and bare our sicknesses! (Matthew 8:14 to 17)

The profound prophetic passage to which Matthew alluded, in his gospel narrative, went like this:

1 Who hath believed our report? And to whom is the arm of Yahuah revealed? 2 For He shall grow up before Him as a tender plant, as a root out of a dry ground! He hath no form nor comeliness; and, when we shall see Him, there is no beauty, that we should desire Him. 3 He is despised and rejected of men! a man of sorrows and acquainted with grief! And we hid, as it were, our faces from Him. He was despised, and we esteemed Him not! 4 Surely He hath borne our griefs and carried our sorrows: yet we did esteem him stricken, smitten of God, and afflicted! 5 But He was wounded for our transgressions! He was bruised for our iniquities! The chastisement of our peace was upon Him! And with His stripes we are healed. 6 All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned every one to his own way; and Yahuah hath laid, on Him, the iniquity of us all! 7 He was oppressed! And He was afflicted! Yet He opened not his mouth! He is brought, as a lamb, to the slaughter! And, as a sheep before her shearers is dumb, so he openeth not his mouth! 8 He was taken from prison and from judgment! And who shall declare His generation? For He was cut off out of the land of the living! For the transgression of My people was He stricken! 9 He made His grave with the wicked and with the rich, in his death. He had done no violence, neither was any deceit in His mouth. 10 Yet it pleased Yahuah to bruise Him. He hath put Him to grief! When Yahuah shall make His soul an offering for sin, He shall see His seed! He shall prolong His days! And the pleasure of Yahuah shall prosper in His hand! 11 He shall see of the travail of His soul and shall be satisfied! By His knowledge shall My righteous servant justify many; for He shall bear their iniquities! (Isaiah 53:1 to 11)

As I intimated above, this is one of the most profound passages in Yahuah Hayah's entire Holy Bible! My Merriam-Webster defines "profound" as "having intellectual depth and insight"! It also said that it is "difficult to fathom or understand"! And this passage certainly fulfills those qualities!

For, as one might suspect from its language, this passage relates to the scourging and crucifixion of Yeshua, which would take place eight hundred years after Isaiah was given this amazing prophecy by Yahuah Hayah! And the things He said about it through Isaiah, having "depth and insight" and being "difficult to fathom or understand" challenge us to examine it carefully, to appreciate what it means, since the purpose or reason for Yahuah's "commandment" (John 10:18) that Yeshua obediently "lay down" (Verse 17) His life at the hands of His enemies is charged with such astounding significance!

Let me begin with this simple overview of what Yahuah Hayah did through His beloved Son in asking Him to lay down His life. In the first place, Yeshua was not the helpless victim of the will of His enemies to destroy Him; and He demonstrated this, as they came for Him:

4 Knowing all things that should come upon Him, Jesus went forth, and said unto them, Whom seek ye? 5 They answered him, Jesus of Nazareth. Jesus saith unto them, I AM! ... 6 As soon, then, as He had said unto them, I AM, they went backward and fell to the ground! (John 18:4 to 6)

Trying to be helpful in the situation, "10 Simon Peter, having a sword, drew it and smote the high priest’s servant! ... 11 Then said Jesus, unto Peter, Put up thy sword into the sheath: the cup that My Father hath given Me, shall I not drink it?" (John 18:10 and 11)

The gospel writer Matthew gave a different response by Yeshua: "26 Put up again thy sword into its place: for all they who take the sword shall perish with the sword. 53 Thinkest thou that I cannot now pray to My Father, and He shall give Me more than twelve legions of angels? 54 But how then shall the scriptures be fulfilled, that thus it must be?" (Matthew 26:52 to 54)

Yeshua knew His Father's will for Him; and He was determined that it be carried out! But we are plagued with the nagging question: Why? And Yahuah Hayah's prophecy through Isaiah addresses the answer to that question:

Isaiah begins his prophecy by asking "Who hath believed our report? And to whom is the arm of Yahuah revealed?" (Isaiah 53:1) And our answer to those questions can easily be "Very few!" Because understanding why Yahuah Hayah did ask Yeshua to lay down His life as He did is one of the most challenging aspects of His entire Holy Bible! And we are well advised to become one of those "who hath believed our report", to where we will become one of those "to whom ... the arm of Yahuah [has been] revealed"!

Yahuah Hayah wanted us to appreciate that this amazing phenomenon of Yeshua's coming to walk among Yahuah's beloved children began very simply and naturally! "For He shall grow up before Him as a tender plant, as a root out of a dry ground!" (Isaiah 53:2)

Then, strangely, Yahuah Hayah gives us to understand through Isaiah that Yeshua would be very plain and unassuming so far as His physical appearance was concerned: "He hath no form nor comeliness; and, when we shall see Him, there is no beauty, that we should desire Him." (Isaiah 53:2)

Then the prophecy jumps, headlong. into the reaction of Yeshua's enemies to Him: "He is despised and rejected of men! a man of sorrows and acquainted with grief! And we hid, as it were, our faces from Him. He was despised, and we esteemed Him not!" (Isaiah 53:3)

I dare say that Yeshua's disciples and the people He blessed with healings, deliverance from demons, food and miracles "esteemed" Him; but the leaders in Jerusalem, whom Satan had got ahold of, had nothing but contempt for the Giver of those blessings, which in relation to Yahuah Hayah's plan for Yeshua's ministry played right into His hands! For what He had in mind by having Yeshua suffer the unconscionable enmity of the Jews for Him was utterly astounding and capable of reaching far into eternity for the sake of untold millions of His children! And we are in the midst, right now, of looking into this amazing mystery! So bear with me.

Wasting no time, the prophecy jumps ahead and actually looks back on Yeshua's suffering as though it already had happened:

4 Surely He hath borne our griefs and carried our sorrows! Yet we did esteem Him stricken, smitten of God and afflicted! 5 But He was wounded for our transgressions! He was bruised for our iniquities! The chastisement of our peace was upon Him! And with His stripes we are healed. (Isaiah 53:4 and 5)

It takes some doing to absorb how the above could possibly have been true concerning what Yeshua deliberately went through by submitting to the hands of His hateful enemies! How did He bear "our griefs" and carry "our sorrows"?

"Our griefs" and "our sorrows" relate to Yahuah Hayah's judgments upon us, which are "true and righteous, altogether' (Psalm 19:9) and are the result of our failing to "hearken unto the voice of Yahuah, thy God, to observe to do all His commandments" to where "all these curses shall come, upon thee, and overtake thee". (Deuteronomy 28:15) So something in what Yeshua did was aimed at getting us to stop failing in that regard. Yeshua said: 'I am ... come to call ... sinners to repentance!" (Matthew 9:13)

To "repent" (Matthew 4:17) means to "think differently" (Strong: Greek: 3340) and "sin is the transgression of the law"! (1st John 3:4) So Yeshua came to call sinners to think differently about their transgression of the law!

In war, a strategy for winning is spoken of as bringing "shock and awe" to the enemy! What was done to Yeshua was both shocking and awesome, which prompted Yahuah Hayah to write through His author: "How much more shall the blood of Christ ... purge your conscience from dead works to serve the living God?" (Hebrews 9:14)

"How much more" than what?

A few verses before, Yahuah Hayah had written through His author of the sacrifices of innocent lambs that He had commanded in His Torah so that it was written of the one bringing his "sin offering" (Numbers 15:27): "It shall be forgiven him." (Verse 28) Yahuah wrote, through His author of those sacrifices, that they were

a figure for the time then present ... that could not make him who did the service perfect, as pertaining to the conscience! (Hebrews 9:9)

In other words, not enough "shock and awe" was involved in killing innocent lambs for Yahuah Hayah's forgiveness to "make him who did the service perfect as pertaining to the conscience"! But trying to make it perfect was the object of these sacrifices in Yahuah's ritual of the "atonement"! (Numbers 15:28)

So, with that imperfection in mind, Yahuah the Father sent His Son to be sacrificed as "the lamb of God" (John 1:29), hoping that perhaps that would contain enough "shock and awe" to get His sinning children to pay attention and realize how terrible sin is and how absolutely nothing justifies the pain and suffering that it imposes on Him, Whose "express image" (Hebrews 1:3) laid down His life and wound up hanging on His cross with every bit of the pain and suffering of His Son being transmitted by His Spirit to Him, as is true whenever any one of His children is violated by the sin of some neighbor against him or her!
