Forgiving Is Not Forgetting

(Please note: This sermon can be directly accessed on the Internet at

Hi! I'm Pastor Floyd! I wish I had a photograph of you, too, so that I could visualize to whom I am talking! But Yahuah Hayah, the Self-Existent, Eternal I AM, Creator of the universe and King over it, knows who you are; and that's all that matters!

At this point in your participation in the service, I recommend that you go to Sabbath Ritual and participate in the prayer in which we like to engage each week, as I do each morning, to avail ourselves of Yahuah Hayah's "Power of Agreement" (Matthew 18:19) for the basic things that all of us must have each day of our lives! Although repetitious and time-consuming, doing that will bless you, the fellowship and all of His children in the universe! It is what some people call "getting prayed up"!

As for the thoughts that Yahuah (Self-Existent, Eternal) Hayah (I AM) gave me for this Sabbath, I sent, by email, my sermon on "forgiving by faith" to the young friend of mine whom I had in mind as I wrote it, only to find that she had not got it and that my email address for her had been changed!

My friend rightly surmised that my address to the necessity of forgiving our enemies related to her father, who had done things to hurt her that had been too consistent and for too long a period for her to consider forgiving him, her fear being that, should she accommodate him in any way, he would immediately take that accommodation as an invitation to continue demanding, by threats and intimidation, that she do everything he wanted of her because she is his daughter and that therefore - in his mind, at least - she owes that to him!

We owe our parents a lot! And Yahuah Hayah expressed that obligation, by commanding through Moses that you "Honor thy father and thy mother!" (Exodus 20:12)

But, when it comes to doing what we believe in our hearts that we should not be doing, that it is not in our best interest or that it is not what Yahuah Hayah would have us be doing, we have an obligation to be true to ourselves and follow His leading! And, as hard as that may seem, parents must learn to respect that, even when they see from their perspective that the choice of the child is not wise, especially when he or she has grown nearly to adulthood!

Seeing decisions in children that circumvent a parent's counsel for them is an opportunity to pray for them and exercise one's faith in their behalf, even as we must pray for others in the world!

So this follow-up sermon is to assure my friend and others who are plagued with the same fear that continuing to be a victim of our enemy is not the purpose of forgiving him and that it does not set aside Yahuah Hayah's judgment upon him for being the hurtful person that an enemy is!

In my first sermon I gave the example of Yeshua (Jesus) ha Mawshiyach (the Messiah or Christ)'s praying for His Father to forgive the enemies of His who had nailed Him to His cross! But I did not mention that thirty-seven years later, the Romans came and besieged His enemies' city, fulfilling His prophecy concerning them:

37 O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, thou who killest the prophets and stonest them who are sent unto thee, how often would I have gathered thy children together, even as a hen gathereth her chickens under her wings, and ye would not! 38 Behold, your house is left, unto you, desolate! 39 For I say unto you, Ye shall not see Me henceforth, till ye shall say, Blessed is He that cometh in the name of the Lord! (Matthew 23:37)

42 If thou hadst known, even thou, at least in this thy day, the things that belong unto thy peace! But now they are hid from thine eyes! 43 For the days shall come, upon thee, that thine enemies shall cast a trench, about thee, and compass thee round and keep thee in, on every side, 44 and shall lay thee even with the ground and thy children within thee; and they shall not leave, in thee, one stone upon another; because thou knewest not the time of thy visitation! (Luke 19:42 to 44)

Under Paul's teaching, people wrongly suppose that because Yeshua (Jesus) ha Mawshiyach (the Messiah or Christ) shed His blood it was to pay a "redemption" (Romans 3:24) or "ransom" (Strong: Greek: 629) in their place; because "all have sinned" (Romans 3:23) and "the wages of sin is death"! (Romans 6:23) It was, indeed, to pay what Yahuah the Father asked of Yeshua; but the that it was for Yeshua to die "in their place" ignores Yahuah (Self-Existent, Eternal) Hayah (I AM)'s perfect justice, which He expressed through His commandment:

The fathers shall not be put to death for the children, neither shall the children be put to death for the fathers: every man shall be put to death for his own sin. (Deuteronomy 24:16)

That idea also ignores the fact that Yahuah (Self-Existent, Eternal) Hayah (I AM) offered, through Yeshua (Jesus) ha Mawshiyach (the Messiah or Christ), through Moses, His "blessings" (Deuteronomy 28:2) for those who "hearken diligently, unto the voice of the Lord thy God, to observe to do all His commandments" (Verse 1), with "death" (Deuteronomy 30:19) being the penalty for one's not so observing. So with someone else's dying in place of the indifferent child, what motivation exists for him to be attentive?

So, when Yahuah (Self-Existent, Eternal) Hayah (I AM) had sent Yeshua (Jesus) ha Mawshiyach (the Messiah or Christ) into the world to walk among and teach their children, He assured their children that to "keep the commandments" (Matthew 19:17) was not only "your life" (Deuteronomy 32:47) but "everlasting life"! (Matthew 19:16) So the ultimate blessing imaginable is the reward of the person who keeps, guards or puts a value on the commandments of Yahuah Hayah's Torah through Moses!

But Paul taught that "ye could not be justified by the law of Moses" (Acts 13:39), that "whosoever of you are justified by the law, ye are fallen from grace" (Galatians 5:2), that "Christ is become of no effect unto you." (Verse 2)

In other words, according to Paul, for one to even try to "enter into life" (Matthew 19:17) by keeping "the commandments" (Verse 17) is to forfeit the "life" offered by both Yahuah Hayah through Moses (Deuteronomy 30:19; 32:47) and through Yeshua ha Mawshiyach (Matthew 19:17); because Yeshua ha Mawshiyach's shedding His blood as a "redemption" (Romans 3:24) or "ransom" (Strong: Greek: 629) has nothing to do with one's keeping the commandments the way Paul taught it.

I say "the way Paul taught it"; because the way Yahuah (Self-Existent, Eternal) Hayah (I AM) taught it through Yeshua (Jesus) ha Mawshiyach (the Messiah or Christ), it had everything to do with it; Yeshua said: "For their sakes I sanctify Myself, that they also might be sanctified, through the truth!" (John 17:19) He told Pilate, who would give the order for Him to be crucified: "To this end was I born, and for this cause came I into the world, that I should bear witness unto the truth!" (John 18:37) He had told the "Jews" (John 8:30):

31 If ye continue in My word, then are ye My disciples indeed! 32 And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free! (John 8:31 and 32)

Yeshua (Jesus) ha Mawshiyach (the Messiah or Christ)'s submitting to wicked men, who would torture and kill Him would show a "truth"! It is the truth of what sin does to Yahuah (Self-Existent, Eternal) Hayah (I AM), our Father in Heaven, Whose Spirit is in the victims of our sinning against one another yet Who, being innocent, has had to suffer the pain of our sinning when He was not worthy of it.

That truth was shown by all the sacrificing of innocent animals that had been required by Yahuah (Self-Existent, Eternal) Hayah (I AM) in His Torah! He wrote, through His author, that those sacrifices "could not make him who did the service perfect as pertaining to the conscience"! (Hebrews 9:9)

Then, when Yeshua (Jesus) ha Mawshiyach (the Messiah or Christ) had been sacrificed, Yahuah (Self-Existent, Eternal) Hayah (I AM) asked, through His author: "How much more shall the blood of Christ ... purge your conscience from dead works to serve the living God?" (Hebrews 9:14)

The word "conscience" (Hebrews 9:9 and 14) means "moral consciousness"! (Strong: Greek: 4893) It is our sense of "right" and "wrong"! But, if our consciences have been corrupted by Satan's lies concerning sin, by all the excuses he has given us for sinning, they must be "purged"! And that is what seeing innocent animals or even the innocent "Son of God" (John 3:18) violated and killed does to our consciences! It rids them of all notions about sin's being "alright", to where we can "serve the living God"!

If, as Paul taught, Yeshua (Jesus) ha Mawshiyach (the Messiah or Christ)'s shed blood paid for or cancelled the sins of every person who had ever lived or who ever would live, no judgment for sin is left! And, presumably, people can sin all they want yet have "faith in His blood" (Romans 3:25) that it paid for their sinning and come out still going to Heaven! But the Christians who have walked under that terrible delusion are in for a terrible shock!

For a careful look at Yahuah (Self-Existent, Eternal) Hayah (I AM)'s story through Yeshua (Jesus) ha Mawshiyach (the Messiah or Christ) of the highly indebted servant shows no such thing about His forgiveness; and He told that story to give His listeners insight into what "the kingdom of Heaven [is] likened unto"! (Matthew 18:23) When the king to whom the servant owed his debt began

24 to reckon, one was brought, unto him, who owed him ten thousand talents! 25 But forasmuch as he had not to pay, his lord commanded him to be sold and his wife and children and all that he had and payment to be made! 26 The servant therefore fell down and worshipped him, saying, Lord, have patience with me, and I will pay thee all! 27 Then the lord of that servant was moved with compassion and loosed him and forgave him the debt. (Matthew 18:24 to 27)

So, now, I ask you, "Where, in any of that account, is any mention made of a third party's paying the debt for the indebted servant? Did not the king have the sovereign right to forgive whom he chose?"

Furthermore, where, in any of that account, is any mention made of the debt's not being paid? Did the king's forgiveness absolve the indebted servant of any need to repay the debt? Was not the servant's promise to "pay thee all" the basis on which the king did forgive him?

Please pay close attention to what the result of that forgiveness actually was! When Yahuah (Self-Existent, Eternal) Hayah (I AM) said through Yeshua (Jesus) ha Mawshiyach (the Messiah or Christ) that "the lord of that servant was moved, with compassion, and loosed him and forgave him the debt" (Matthew 18:27), He went on to say that "the same servant went out"! (Verse 28) He was "free" (John 8:32) to walk anywhere he wanted in his lord's kingdom! And we must assume, from our careful notice, that this freedom was to pay the king "all" while being permitted to remain in his kingdom!

So the king's forgiveness did not cancel the debt; it merely allowed the indebted servant to be free within the kingdom while paying the debt! Yahuah (Self-Existent, Eternal) Hayah (I AM) wrote, through Yeshua (Jesus) ha Mawshiyach (the Messiah or Christ), through His faithful apostle John:

Write, Blessed are the dead who die in the Lord from henceforth! Yea, saith the Spirit, that they may rest from their labors! And their works do follow them. (Revelation 14:13)

Does it say "Their good works do follow them"?

Does it say "Their bad works do not follow them"?

No, we are forced to recognize, if we are careful, that "their works" bad or good "do follow them"; Yahuah (Self-Existent, Eternal) Hayah (I AM) said, through Yeshua (Jesus) ha Mawshiyach (the Messiah or Christ): "Whosoever ... shall break one of these least commandments and shall teach men so, he shall be called the least in the kingdom of Heaven! But whosoever shall do and teach them, the same shall be called great in the kingdom of Heaven." (Matthew 5:19)

There you have it: Not only do our our good works follow us to Heaven but also our bad ones, as well - that is, if we are "forgiven"! I shall not get into what happens if we fail to be forgiven; for the story we are examining so carefully speaks only of the indebted servant's being sold into slavery; and how that translates into the spiritual reality that follows the unforgiven into the next life is beyond the scope of this sermon!

What gets down to "forgiving is not forgetting" is the fact that, when the indebted servant "went out" (Matthew 18:28), the first thing he did was to find a fellow servant who owed him a relatively small debt; and, since he, too, could not pay, he "cast him into prison, till he should pay the debt"! (Verse 30)

When the king was told about the indebted servant's lack of mercy, he was furious! So he called the debt, which obviously he had not forgotten, and "delivered him to the tormentors" (Matthew 18:34) as well! And Yeshua ha Mawshiyach's story concludes with His issuing this stern warning:

So likewise shall My heavenly Father do also unto you, if ye from your hearts forgive not every one his brother their trespasses! (Matthew 18:35)

The sample prayer that Yeshua ha Mawshiyach gave His disciples includes: "Forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors!" (Matthew 6:12) And to make sure that this critical point would not be missed, He went on to say:

14 For, if ye forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you! 15 But, if ye forgive not men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses. (Matthew 6:14 and 15)

Again we must ask: "Where in "the Lord's prayer" is any mention of any third party paying for the sinner's debt?

Does "your heavenly Father will also forgive you" mean what it says?

No mention of Paul's "redemption" (Romans 3:24) or "ransom" to pay for the sins of "all" (Romans 3:23) is found in Yahuah (Self-Existent, Eternal) Hayah (I AM)'s truth through Yeshua (Jesus) ha Mawshiyach (the Messiah or Christ), except in one place where Yeshua says, "The Son of man came not to be ministered unto but to minister and to give His life a ransom for many!" (Matthew 20:28) And, in view of His heavy emphasis upon the truth that His sacrifice would show (John 8:31 and 32; 17:19; 18:37), we must conclude that the "payment" he made was the cost of revealing that truth and not of freeing anyone from the obligation of paying for his transgressions, now or in the life to come!

So, as Paul quoted, so wisely, "It is written, Vengeance is Mine! I will repay, saith the Lord!" (Romans 12:19) And He does that meticulously! For "the judgments of Yahuah are true and righteous altogether"! (Psalm 19:9) And they are not "true and righteous" by His forgetting a single thing! He said, through Yeshua (Jesus) ha Mawshiyach (the Messiah or Christ):

Every idle word that men shall speak, they shall give account thereof in the Day of Judgment! (Matthew 12:36)

So my young friend need have no fear that her father will not be dealt with fairly, according to anything he may have done to hurt or offend her, that she need not suppose that she needs to give her father the punishment he deserves! Yahuah (Self-Existent, Eternal) Hayah (I AM) said, through Yeshua (Jesus) ha Mawshiyach (the Messiah or Christ): "Judge not, that ye be not judged!" (Matthew 7:1) and "Blessed are the merciful: for they shall obtain mercy!" (Matthew 5:7)

36 Be ye therefore merciful, as your Father also is merciful. 37 Judge not, and ye shall not be judged! Condemn not, and ye shall not be condemned! Forgive, and ye shall be forgiven! 38 Give, and it shall be given unto you, good measure, pressed down, shaken together and running over! (Luke 6:36 to 38)

I pray that this information I have given you is true in Yahuah Hayah's sight, that it can be stored in your spirit for great and beneficial use to you as the days go by and that we might hear from you now and then as you find it working its wonders in your life!

Father, by my "faith in God" (Mark 11:22), I "speak" (Mark 11:23), to Your children, and command that they be given the knowledge and understanding of You by which to forgive their enemies, leaving it up to You to remember what they deserve!

I rejoice (John 15:11) that You are faithful to fulfill Your children's powerful use of their "dominion ... over every living thing that moveth upon the Earth"! (Genesis 1:28) I know you answered this prayer, in ha Kodesh Ruach, Your Holy Spirit, the moment I said it; so I "believe" I "receive" (Mark 11:24), even now, a family of brothers and sisters who are rejoicing in their seeing Your amazing hand at work in the rewards or punishments that you do give even here on Earth!

I pray that Yahuah Hayah shall bless you mightily, throughout the coming week, and that you will realize in your heart how important you are to the ministry that He has given to Faith Harvest Israel to see that His truth is learned, believed and carried out by all His children throughout the world, so many of whom are in such desperate need of it.

Amen! Alleluia!
