Temptation

(Please note: This sermon can be directly accessed on the Internet at http://www.enterHiscovenant.com/Sabbath20180324.htm)

Hi! I'm Pastor Floyd! I wish I had a photograph of you, too, so that I could visualize to whom I am talking! But Yahuah (Self-Existent, Eternal) Hayah (I AM), the Creator and King over all the universe, knows who you are; and that's all that matters!

At this point in your participation in the service, I recommend that you go to Sabbath Ritual and participate in the prayer in which we like to engage each week, as I do each morning, to avail ourselves of Yahuah (Self-Existent, Eternal) Hayah (I AM)'s "Power of Agreement" (Matthew 18:19) for the basic things that all of us must have each day of our lives! Although repetitious and time-consuming, doing that will bless you, the fellowship and all of His children in the universe! It is what some people call "getting prayed up"!

As for the thoughts that Yahuah (Self-Existent, Eternal) Hayah (I AM) gave me for this Sabbath, He taught us, through Yeshua (Jesus) ha Mawshiyach (the Messiah or Christ), to pray:

Lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil! (Matthew 6:13)

As Matthew wrote of Yeshua (Jesus) ha Mawshiyach (the Messiah or Christ)'s temptation in "the wilderness" (4:1), he called Satan "the Tempter"! (Verse 3) So the prayer He taught us to pray, includes the request that "Our Father in Heaven" (Matthew 6:9) "lead us not to Satan"! Does He lead us "into temptation", if we fail to ask Him not to??

Consider that, when Yahuah (Self-Existent, Eternal) Hayah (I AM) cast Lucifer out of Heaven so that He became "Satan", He let Him wander "to and fro in the Earth and ... up and down in it"! (Job 1:7) And His disciple Peter wrote of him: "Your adversary, the Devil, walketh about, as a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour!" (1st Peter 5:8)

"Put on the whole armor of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the Devil!" (Ephesians 6:11)

Did Yahuah (Self-Existent, Eternal) Hayah (I AM) want His children to be devoured by the Tempter and his "wiles"? My answer, is: If that is our choice, Yes! And I say that, because we do have a choice (Deuteronomy 30 19); and, if we are sufficiently foolish to choose the Tempter's way rather than Yahuah's, it is obvious that we are in need of some education! And the pain of a wrong choice is the education that Yahuah has reserved for His foolish children; but is that fair?

In my opinion it is more than fair; because choosing the "wiles" of a lying and hateful tempter over the loving commandments of Yahuah (Self-Existent, Eternal) Hayah (I AM), the Creator of all and the King over it, Whose gifts of creation and of the life we enjoy are beyond comprehension in their beauty, complexity and functionality, shows that the one choosing is without a rational thought in his head!

We covet rationality, when, bouncing through the life Yahuah (Self-Existent, Eternal) Hayah (I AM) has given us without a thought as to what is beneficial for us or harmful to us, we begin to experience the difference and start giving thought to these matters, lest they consume us, before we can figure out which way is up! And, knowing that is exactly the way most of His children conduct themselves in their youthful naivete is, I believe, the reason why He leads them "into temptation" and waits before delivering "us from evil"!

So I believe "temptation" has its place in Yahuah (Self-Existent, Eternal) Hayah (I AM)'s plan for us and that He deliberately leads us into it, until, having got our fill of it, we are more than ready to pray: "Lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil!" And, when we have arrived at that state of wisdom, Yahuah, Who loves His children passionately, is eager to jump in and pull us out of the fire, cool our fevered brow and let us begin experiencing what His intended life is about!

But the way to "that state of wisdom" is long and arduous, because, being made "in the image of God", we are born "creators"! And, until we get it through our thick heads that we create the wrong things with our creativity without submitting it to His wisdom and His will for us, so many ways to create wrongly lie before us that we can occupy an entire lifetime playing around with wrongful creativity before waking up or perhaps even failing to wake up to Yahuah (Self-Existent, Eternal) Hayah (I AM)'s way to create, which requires utter devotion to it, on the part of the child who has finally become convinced that His Creator's way is the only way: He said, through Yeshua (Jesus) ha Mawshiyach (the Messiah or Christ) through Moses:

Yahuah shall establish thee an holy people unto Himself, as He hath sworn unto thee, if thou shalt keep the commandments of Yahuah, thy God, and walk in His ways! (Deuteronomy 28:9)

But that is a huge "if"; and, if the history of "the children of Israel" (Deuteronomy 29:1) shows anything, it shows how long and arduous the path to righteousness is for both the person and the nation! And, since this is a sermon on "temptation", let me show you, from out of Yahuah (Self-Existent, Eternal) Hayah (I AM)'s Holy Bible, a few of the treacherously subtle and damaging forms in which it comes!

Starting in the Garden of Eden with Adam and Eve, we find that "the Serpent was more subtil than any beast of the field"! (Genesis 3:1) And that word "subtil" is the translation of a word that means "cunning (usually in a bad sense)" (Strong: Hebrew: 6175) Having taken on the form of a serpent, Satan was out to destroy Yahuah (Self-Existent, Eternal) Hayah (I AM)'s first couple; and watching how he did it and how Yahuah frustrated that attempt is instructive!

"The serpent" chose Eve as his way into the couple; and I am sorry, if I sound prejudiced; but I am "guilty as charged" in that regard; because I believe women are, indeed, more open to influence from the spirit realm than are men, being more intuitive than rational in the way they behave, which is why a woman needs the covering of a good father or a good husband to function with her best interests at heart!

I am sure plenty of female libertines would love to tear me apart, for saying that; but it's what I believe; so I said it.

The next point to observe about Eve's temptation is to notice that, without seeming to, Satan got Eve to question Yahuah (Self-Existent, Eternal) Hayah (I AM)'s commandment concerning the "the Tree of Knowledge of Good and Evil"! (Genesis 2:17) He said, to Eve: "Yea, hath God said, Ye shall not eat of every tree of the garden?"

That seemingly innocent question forced Eve to quote Yahuah (Self-Existent, Eternal) Hayah (I AM)'s commandment concerning the forbidden tree; and, as most of us are likely to do, she misquoted it slightly, saying: "2 We may eat of the fruit of the trees of the garden: 3 But of the fruit of the tree that is in the midst of the garden, God hath said, Ye shall not eat of it, neither shall ye touch it, lest ye die!" (Genesis 3:2 and 3)

Two trees were "in the midst of the garden" (Genesis 2:9), the other being "the Tree of Life ", about which Yahuah (Self-Existent, Eternal) Hayah (I AM) had said nothing forbidding Adam's and Eve's eating of its fruit. Furthermore, Yahuah had said nothing about not touching the forbidden fruit; he only told Adam: "Thou shalt not eat of it."

With this error begun, Satan became bold and flatly contradicted Yahuah (Self-Existent, Eternal) Hayah (I AM)'s commandment, saying: 4 "Ye shall not surely die: " 5 "For God doth know that in the day ye eat thereof, then your eyes shall be opened, and ye shall be as gods, knowing good and evil!" (Genesis 3:4 and 5)

Interestingly, the reason Satan gave for his lying contradiction was a true statement; because, when Adam and Eve did eat the forbidden fruit, "the eyes of them both were opened, and they knew that they were naked" (Genesis 3:7), which indicated that their innocence was gone; and, when "they heard the voice of Yahuah God walking in the garden in the cool of the day, Adam and his wife hid themselves from the presence of Yahuah God, amongst the trees of the garden"" (Verse 8), which indicated that fear had now entered their spirits; because Yahuah's Spirit is in the spirit of each one of His children; and they sensed, from His spirit, the judgment that was now due them for their disobedience! And such is the condition of every one of us who have dared to break one of Yahuah's commandments!

Yahuah (Self-Existent, Eternal) Hayah (I AM)'s recorder tells us what went through Eve's mind, in reaction to Satan's lie, having written: "The woman saw that the tree was good for food and that it was pleasant to the eyes!" (Genesis 3:6); and, in relation to Satan's statement, she saw that the tree was "to be desired to make one wise"! (Verse 6) So "she took of the fruit thereof and did eat and gave also unto her husband with her; and he did eat". (Genesis 3:6)

What Satan caused Eve to do was to consider options that were contrary to Yahuah (Self-Existent, Eternal) Hayah (I AM)'s will! And, in doing that, she made the fatal error that all of us make, which is that we are sufficiently wise to do as we please regardless of Yahuah's will; and, with Even's having led the way, Adam apparently assumed that Yahuah's warning was not happening and entered into the same error, believing that he was wiser than His Creator! And that error in both of them cost them their places in Paradise!

The next human error we run into in the bible is Cain's treatment of Abel! Yahuah (Self-Existent, Eternal) Hayah (I AM)'s recorder tells us that "3 Cain brought of the fruit of the ground an offering unto Yahuah! 4 And Abel, he also brought of the firstlings of his flock and of the fat thereof. And Yahuah had respect unto Abel and to his offering 5 But unto Cain and to his offering He had not respect; and Cain was very wroth, and his countenance fell!" (Genesis 4:3 to 5)

From that report we learn that apparently Yahuah (Self-Existent, Eternal) Hayah (I AM) had established a relationship with these two young men and that both of them tried, each in his own way, to please Him. But His differing responses to the two efforts indicates that He had told them what would please Him and that Abel had complied, while Cain had not and was rebuffed for that waywardness, giving rise to Cain's anger!

There is only one reason why Cain would have become angry over Yahuah (Self-Existent, Eternal) Hayah (I AM)'s withholding "respect" from him; and that had to be, as it was with Adam and Eve, his opinion that he had a right to do as he pleased regardless of his Creator's will!

So we have a contest of wills going on, in that situation, that of Yahuah (Self-Existent, Eternal) Hayah (I AM) and that of Cain, the one justified in that the Creator is the Creator and the other not justified, in that the created is not the Creator, even though he was made "in the image of God"! (Genesis 1:27)

With a person's being made "in the image" of another person, one would expect that he would have similar desires! And that is entirely true of us with respect to Yahuah (Self-Existent, Eternal) Hayah (I AM), our Creator! He has a will or a desire to do things a certain way; and so do we! The only difference is that He knows what He is doing with His will, while we do not! He gave us "will"; but He did not give us the wisdom to use it effectively; so our efforts to move on our own fail miserably! And that is frustrating; so we become angry about it, which is what Cain did.

Yahuah (Self-Existent, Eternal) Hayah (I AM) loves His children and does not want them to be angry; so He asked Cain:

6 Why art thou wroth? and why is thy countenance fallen? 7 If thou doest well, shalt thou not be accepted? And, if thou doest not well, sin lieth at the door. Unto thee shall be his desire, and thou shalt rule over him. (Genesis 4:6 and 7)

7

From this response by Yahuah (Self-Existent, Eternal) Hayah (I AM) we learn some interesting things! In the first place, doing "well" or not "well" are ways of behaving that require a standard! And Yahuah (Self-Existent, Eternal) Hayah (I AM) has created that standard in His Torah or law, in which He has invited His children "to observe and to do all His commandments"! (Deuteronomy 28:1) From Yahuah's point of view, we, His children, have no cause to be angry! For we have the option to "do well", which brings the satisfactory response from Him, that we "be accepted"! And we have to assume that with being "accepted" come certain rewards, the withholding of which made Cain so angry!

Cain had the option to "do well"! But in bringing his choice of gift for Yahuah (Self-Existent, Eternal) Hayah (I AM), which Yahuah obviously did not want, Cain failed to "do well", which cost him the acceptance and the reward we must assume comes with it; and, instead of correcting the situation, he became angry about it, in which we recognize rebellion!

Cain's failure to "do well" had been an exercise of his will contrary to that of Yahuah (Self-Existent, Eternal) Hayah (I AM), his Creator, Who obviously had told him of what "doing well" should consist in that situation! And, when that did not work, because Yahuah refused to go along with it, Cain became angry; and, when we become angry, we do even more foolish things.

If one is angry because someone else is frustrating us, one option we have is to retaliate by hurting the other to make him change his mind! That is what Yahuah (Self-Existent, Eternal) Hayah (I AM) does with us, His beloved children! He punishes or "curses" us, until we change our mind and decide to do what He wants us to do; and, being made "in His image" (Genesis 1:27) we quite naturally have the tendency to do exactly the same thing!

But how does one go about hurting God! Obviously, He is out of reach, to do anything against Him directly; so the next best thing is to hurt something that is His! And Cain's brother Abel had shown himself to be "accepted" by Yahuah (Self-Existent, Eternal) Hayah (I AM); so to hurt Abel would probably hurt Yahuah; so, apparently, that is what Cain decided to do; and we have the rest of the story, in which "Cain rose up against Abel his brother, and slew him" (Genesis 4:8), which got him not only not "accepted" but punished, as Yahuah exercised His nature to return violence to the violent! (Luke 6:38)

Obviously, something is wrong in that situation. It is a mess! So what was wrong?

The problem lay in the created person's supposing that he is wiser than his Creator! Yes, both the Creator and the created person have the innate tendency to induce another's compliance by using reward and punishment! And we see this tendency at work all over the world, in people's forcing difficult conditions upon their neighbors! But our Creator's commandments are "for our good always"! (Deuteronomy 6:24) Can the same be said for anyone wanting a result contrary to that of His Creator?

If the Creator asks only what is for the good of His beloved children, how can any other option be for the same "good"?

Yeshua was tempted; but, being God (John 1:1), He responded by "doing well"! And each time the "Tempter" (Matthew 4:3) tried to get Him to do something contrary to His Father's will, Yeshua would answer: "It is written!"; and then He would quote some part of His Father's word from His Holy Bible! So, by His "example" (John 13:15), we know that one can "do well"; and, with Yeshua's having done that Himself, "angels came and ministered, unto Him". (Matthew 4:11)

So a right and wrong way to do most anything exists; we do have a choice (Deuteronomy 30:19); Yahuah (Self-Existent, Eternal) Hayah (I AM) makes sure, through Yeshua, His "Word" (John 1:1), that we know and understand the choices before us; then He waits on us to make them, which then obligates Him either to reward or punish us according to the choice we have made! If you can think of a better way to work with a Creator to work with His beloved child, please let me know!

I pray that this information I have given you is true in Yahuah's sight, that it can be stored in your spirit for great and beneficial use to you as the days go by and that we might hear from you now and then as you find it working its wonders in your life!

Father, by my "faith in God"! (Mark 11:22) I "speak" (Mark 11:23), to Your children, and command that they be given the knowledge, understanding by which to deal with the temptation that you allow Satan to put before them.

I rejoice (John 15:11) that You are faithful to fulfill your children's powerful use of their "dominion ... over every living thing that moveth upon the Earth"! (Genesis 1:28) I know you answered this prayer, in ha Kodesh Ruach, your Holy Spirit, the moment I said it; and I "believe" I "receive" (Mark 11:24) a family of brothers and sisters who are rejoicing over the wonderful blessings and eternal life in Your awesome presence that rightly dealing with Satan's tempation brings them.

I pray that Yahuah shall bless you mightily, throughout the coming week, and that you will realize in your heart how important you are to the ministry that He has given to Faith Harvest Israel to see that His truth is learned, believed and carried out by all His children throughout the world, so many of whom are in such desperate need of it.

Amen! Alleluia!
